Worship & Creative Arts

Our mission is communicating the heart of God to others,

to honor God, and to reach our community.

Why be on a praise team?

  • It is an awesome way to directly express our delight in God.
  • It gives us purpose and a place to serve using our unique gifts.
  • It involves our passion and creativity.
  • It is very rewarding to you and to the people you serve.

A person on the praise team is a person who…

…is committed to growing in a relationship with Jesus.

Worship is hard to do when you don’t like Jesus.   None of us “have it all together”, but we need to know you are serious about your commitment to God.  We ask that you join a small group through Heritage.

…can sing and blend with a group, stay on pitch, and be quick learner.

We prefer “intuitive” musicians at the professional level.  My expectation is that we are excellent in quality and are creatively expressive.  We have high standards, which is also the direction that we can work towards as a team.

…is humble yet confident in their abilities.

…able to physically represent what is in the heart.

This is hard to explain, but showing that you are enjoying worshipping God.  Not for show, but in an attitude that comes from the heart.

…understands grace.

Worship is an engaging work and it requires our full attention. It is a natural response to God's grace. Our lives    are interwoven with God's grace and mercy, and are inseparable from his sovereignty and his direction in our lives. A person who understands grace cannot help but worship. Out of the mystery of grace we give our lives to     Jesus giving honor and glory to his name.

…flexible in expectations- singing lead or backup, and music selection.

In other words, a praise team is a team, and it is not about you.  We will do our best to recognize your abilities.

Time commitments for the following two services:

9:45am Worship Team:   Thursday: 7:30 pm – 9:30  &  Sunday:  8:30am – 10:45

5pm Worship Team:        Tues: 7:30 pm - 9:15  &  Sunday: 3:30 - 6:15

►My vision is to develop lead worshippers who are gifted and called by the Holy Spirit to lead worship, through mentorship and training.

►Lead worshippers vision is to develop leaders who lead other worshippers.

►My values are Spirit led worship, Quality, Relevance, Musical Competence, and gift based ministry.

What is a lead worshipper?

"An effective corporate worship leader, aided and led by the Holy Spirit, skillfully combines biblical truth with music to magnify the worth of God and the redemptive work of Jesus Christ, thereby motivating the gathered church to join him in proclaiming and cherishing the truth about God and seeking to live all of life for the glory of God."   (Bob Kauflin)

Two overlapping areas of a worship leader which we seek to develop:

Spiritual: Base your ministry on the filling of the Holy Spirit and prayer (in spirit and in truth).  You need to be actively involved in working towards having a close relationship with the Lord and have an understanding of what it means to be a worshipper.

Involves things like spiritual training, attitude of the heart- humility, love, unity;  ability to physically express heart adoration, worshipping while leading others.

Practical:  We need to be skillful in our ministry, so we need to be constantly improving and working on the talent God has given us (practice, practice, practice).  Never take for granted or assume that God will bless a performance.

Involves things like musical talent, practicing the instrument, technical skill, creativity, ear training, vocal quality, performance quality, paying close attention to pitch, blend and vocal production.

Our expectations of a person on the praise team-

  • Pray for each other.
  • Demonstrate praise team etiquette:    For example, show up on time, be a professional, be positive (Phil 2:14), no "put downs" or hidden agendas; comments should be gracious and encouraging (Phil.4:8).
  • Each person is expected to honestly evaluate himself or herself before commenting on others.
  • Learn how to follow: cues, volume sensitivity, directions, and "the flow".
  • In general, to be present at the Thursday rehearsal to participate on Sundays.

People who desire to enter into the worship ministry:

For people who express interest in the worship ministry, there is generally a minimum 2 month time period which involves coming to the services and being under the ministry of the church before entering into the worship ministry.  An audition and interview will also be necessary.  This person will also need to read this document and understand the Worship Leaders Covenant.

►Our values:   We believe that when Jesus Christ gave the Great Commandment (Matthew 22:37-40) and the Great Commission (Matthew 28:19-20), he illustrated five equally important purposes for His church.  These purposes are to (1) celebrate God’s presence in worship, (2) communicate God’s Word through evangelism, (3) incorporate God’s family into our fellowship, (4) educate God’s people through discipleship, and (5) demonstrate God’s love through service.  These five purposes drive everything we do as a church.

      Worship Leaders Covenant

The purpose of this covenant is to help each of us understand what’s expected of each other as we meet from week to week to prepare music for worship, and as we present our music during worship.

1. I will make rehearsals a priority in my schedule as this is a ministry and it deserves that commitment.

2. I will commit to spending time outside of our rehearsal times to learn our music.

3. I will have all music ready to present prior to our scheduled worship times.

4. I will maximize our rehearsal times by placing my focus on what we are singing.

(that doesn’t mean we won’t have fun, it just means that when it’s time to get serious we will get serious)

5. I will commit to maintaining a personal prayer life and spiritual growth.

6. I will commit to praying for this ministry of our church.

7. I will treat this ministry with the seriousness that it deserves.

8. I will be on time to rehearsals and will call or email when I cannot be present.

9. I will commit to promoting unity and fellowship within the group.

10. I will delight in the Lord and enjoy worshipping Him.
