What Parents Can Do For Their Child

Make your child feel secure and wanted at all times.
Teach your child to share and to put away his/her toys with help.
Give your child good books to look at, read to him/her, sing songs with him/her, and monitor his/her TV viewing.
Try to keep regular eating and sleeping hours.
Do not make comparisons with other children in the family or in the neighborhood.
Be interested in what your child brings home from school.
Listen to what your child has to tell you.

Discipline Policy

The ultimate goal of our discipline policy is to promote healthy self-esteem in each child.

We do this by:

Our purpose is to use natural consequences, redirection, and as a last resort, a brief time-out. If a child’s behavior becomes a challenge in the classroom, a parent-teacher conference will be requested. A plan of cooperation will be formulated at this time to correct the challenging behavior.

In the event of an ongoing problem, The Growing Place Director and the Director of Children’s Ministry will confer with the teacher and parents to develop a plan appropriate for the particular child. If the team of adults feels more professional help may be warranted, an Early Childhood Specialist for the Pinellas County License Board will be consulted. This consultation will require written agreement from the parents, teacher, Director of The Growing Place, and Director of Children’s Ministry.
