Disaster Response/Recovery

Cornerstone Ministries, Inc.

World Changers 2012 Brunswick, GA

World Changers provides a dynamic week-long mission trip for students seeking to make a difference in the lives of those with spiritual and physical needs.  Both Middle and High School Lighthouse Student Ministry participants will join students from around the country for mission work.  The teams bring the Gospel of Jesus to the people of the neighborhood in which they serve. There will be opportunities for students to gain hands-on mission experience by painting, roofing, and performing other light construction tasks in order to give back some of what God has given to them.  We will serve as a team with students from other churches in worship, Bible study, and team-building activities.

  • Dates: July 9-14
  • Ages: Middle and High School students
  • Cost:$150 + 3 meals (must meet requirements of 11 service hours at specific events and raising minimum of $100 through STRIVE)
  • Apply: Lighthouse Student Ministry of Heritage UMC, 727.797.0703

Disaster Response/Recovery
Website: www.flumc.org/DisasterRecovery

Faith-based response in disaster.  This outreach project prepares members of our congregation to assist their communities, our church, our state, and our nation to prepare for, respond to, and recover from disasters.  Early Response Teams (ERT) are trained to enter a disaster zone as soon as it is deemed safe by local emergency officials and remain there for three days doing the early work of tarping, mucking out, and clearing fallen trees to provide a way for the next two teams.  The Spiritual Response Team (SRT) is trained to provide spiritual and emotional care following disasters.  The third team is Disaster Recovery, and like the SRT, it is ongoing and continues to rebuild after the disaster. All three teams provide a Christian presence that is greatly needed.

  • Who: Age 18 and older
  • When: Training sessions TBA

As Heritage UMC seeks to serve the Navajo Nation, we have partnered with Cornerstone Ministries.

Cornerstone Ministries, Inc.
Serving the Navajo Nation - Crownpoint, New Mexico

Cornerstone Ministries founder, Pete J. Belon, is a Christian Native American who understands the challenges, the cultural setting and the needs experienced by those who are bringing the good news of Jesus Christ to the Four Corners Area. Conrnerstone Ministries is working with Christian  pastors of All Nations to improve the lives of Native Americans living on the reservation.

During our mission trip we will meet both the physical and spiritual needs of the community. Physical needs are met primarily through construction and renovation projects, and spiritual needs are met in a number of creative and culturally appropriate ways. We will also host a Kid’s Bible Camp which incorporates children of many age. The team will likely experience worship time with a local congregation and have the opportunity to continue building relationships through a community picnic near the end of the week.
