Church Leadership Structure
Leadership Committees
- Administrative Council
- This is the visioning board of the church. The chairpersons of Trustees, Staff Parish and Finance, the Lay Leader and Representative to the Annual Conference as well as the Pastors and Sr. Staff Members are members of the Administrative Council. Additional members at large include younger members of the church.
- Administrative Council Meeting Minutes for 01/10/2012
- Anyone is welcome to attend Administrative Council meetings. On items requiring the approval of the Administrative Council, only church members can vote. For more information, please contact Bill Goodwin (chairperson).
- Finance
- The finance committee is responsible for developing and implementing plans that will raise sufficient income to meet the budget adopted by the Administrative Council. There are six people on the committee. In order to serve on this committee, members must support the church financially.
- Meeting Minutes: Minutes for Finance Committee Meeting 12-12-11
- The Finance Committee meets on the fourth Monday of the month.
- Anyone is welcome to attend Finance Committee meetings. For more information, please contact Bob Crawford (chairperson).
- Trustees
- The Board of Trustees is responsible for the supervision, oversight and care of all real property owned by the church. This includes the buildings, parsonages, equipment and vehicles. Equipment includes computers, phones, sound systems and all equipment supporting Sunday worship. This also extends to any equipment leased by the church such as our copiers and duplicators. Adequate insurance coverage is also a responsibility of the board.
The officers of the Board of Trustees also serve as the officers of the Corporation since Heritage is a non-profit Corporation and tax exempt. The Chairperson is the President of the Corporation. Churches are supposed to have between 3 – 9 members and at least a third of the members should be women. Only the 9 board members have a vote. Each year, three people are scheduled to roll off the board and 3 people are scheduled to be added to the group so there are experienced members as well as new members on the board. An odd number of members allows for decisions to be made by a vote. Membership on the Board is comprised of church members from a variety of backgrounds, ages, and ministries who seek to objectively represent the larger church.
- While the Book of Discipline calls for the board to meet at least annually or by the call of the Pastor or Chairperson, the Heritage Board of Trustees generally meets monthly on the second Monday of the month at 6:30 pm. There must be a quorum of the Trustees in order to conduct business. This is the only committee or board requiring a quorum. If there are no projects in the summer or if people’s schedules take a majority of them out of town, the committee may choose not to meet.
- Minutes Trustees Meeting November 14, 2011
- The Trustees Committee meets every second Monday of the month from 6:30 pm-7:30pm. If you would like to attend, please contact Bob Worner (chairperson) or Arch Johnston for more details.
- Staff Parish
- The Staff Parish Committee is the Human Resources board of the church. They are responsible for the Staff budget, employment practices, benefits, policies and to make sure we are legal in our dealings with employees. Because this committee handles the Human Resources areas of the church, members are selected who have supervisory experience and/or specific HR experience. This committee also reviews and recommends members of the church who are discerning a calling into ordained ministry.
There are 9 people on the committee. Each year, 3 rotate on and 3 rotate off. While this committee does not need a quorum, it does require the approval of the Senior Pastor to have a meeting and the Senior Pastor must be present or give approval to meet in their absence. All members of the committee must be members of the church and no more than one person per family can serve on the board at a time. No employees can serve on the committee.
- Due to the Human Resources responsibilities of the Staff Parish Relations Committee, some meetings are closed to visitors and meeting minutes are not published. If you have questions regarding the Staff Parish Relations Committee, please contact Rick Clemens (chairperson) or Rev. Chuck Engelhardt for more information.
